WRITTEN BY:

NARRATED BY:
Michael Scott

Serengeti Grasshopper is an anthropological look at human nature through the eyes of three delightful animals living in the Serengeti. We find the newly born grasshopper jubilantly discovering and enjoying life, and immediately uncovering life’s hardships when he becomes hungry. Food is a new experience for him, and he does not understand the basic concepts of nutrition for survival. Fortunately, an intelligent ant comes along, one versed in the psychological and social well-being of animals living in the Serengeti. Not only does the ant show the grasshopper what to do to survive, he provides a more philosophical understanding of the hard rules of life on the Serengeti.

A dung beetle happens along flinging his prized lion’s dung and stops for an insightful discussion with the ant and grasshopper. We find the dung beetle has his own personal problems involving his marriage and his lack of understanding of the deeper psychological mechanism underpinning the marriage dynamic. The ant provides him with some valuable insight, again delving deeper into the problem to reach the foundational core of the issues involved. After a near death experience by an elephant, the three Serengeti animals become friends, and find their mutual talents cascading into wondrous adventures helping animals throughout the world.

TA0112: Papercut Reflections

Papercut Reflections

WRITTEN BY:
Michael Anthony Scott

NARRATED BY:
Michael Scott

Papercut Reflections is a humorous story about the clash between dreams and reality with a large dose of denial in achieving dreamscape objectives. The narrator finds his calling as a writer when he reads THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA in the seventh grade. He falls more in love with the celebrity trappings successful writers have and isn’t quite in-tune with the mechanics of becoming a great writer.

His father is massively rich, acting as a backdrop to his persistent striving to become a great writer. He is a well-liked individual, as we follow him through middle-school, high school, college, and finally his job in his father’s business. He makes an excessive salary with all the perks that come with having a rich dad and working in his successful financial business.

Our protagonist finally achieves some success crafting a novel, but finds the reception to his work slightly disheartening. Not discouraged, he continues working as a writer and finds contentment in his role discovering his hidden talents. The story is an insight into how our personal lives may become shrouded with living for the glitter and not the hard work that goes along with it, regardless of one’s real-life settings. No matter what, the story is a fun ride alongside a charming character and his ability to turn obstacles into success, however limited.

TA0117: A Haunted House

A Haunted House

WRITTEN BY:
Virginia Woolf

NARRATED BY:
Michael Scott

A Haunted House reflects Virginia Woolf’s ability to move into the ethereal and bring it back to earth. Her articulate use of words provides a poetic love theme as well as a narrative outlook on her present day. The genius of Virginia Woolf is her abstract expressionistic literary form expressing the essence of humanity, in this case the undying “light of the heart” that the couple in the short story is ultimately looking to find.

This short story by Virginia Woolf carries the theme of struggle, loss, connection, love, and acceptance. The couple is searching for something they cannot find. They move throughout the house as ghosts, yet with the breath of life inside of them. Though the house is hundreds of years old, it is a symbolic representation of the couple’s long standing love for each other, even into the afterlife.

TA0115: The Mark on the Wall

The Mark on the Wall

WRITTEN BY:
Virginia Woolf

NARRATED BY:
Michael Scott

What Picasso was to art, Virginia Woolf is to writing. The Mark on the Wall is an unspoiled example of Virginia Woolf’s unfettered stream of consciousness writing. Her ability to suddenly change mental tracks and spin in a new direction, while at the same time maintaining continuity to the story, speaks to her accomplished literary artistry as a writer. Her witty, sharp, intellectual style as an individual ushered in a modern era as we know it today.

Virginia Woolf unleashes freedom of spirit as the guiding force of expression, riding on storied trains of revelry, allowing the reader to share in her freedom. Her sentence structure and cadence allow for a seamless, yet intellectual ride, with emotions following in hot pursuit. Her ending in the Mark on the Wall foretells the Hollywood Studio’s troupe of surprise endings well before their time.
